Warner Bros has pushed back the release date of the highly-anticipated Batman vs. Superman movie by almost a year. The as-yet-unnamed superhero film was due to be released in July 2015, but studio bosses now say it will be released in May 2016.
Warner Bros, a unit of Time Warner Inc, said in a statement that it needed to move back the date to allow “the filmmakers time to realise fully their vision, given the complex visual nature of the story”.
The film, starring Ben Affleck as Batman, is a sequel to last year’s Man of Steel.
he Superman origin story was successful at the box office but received mixed reviews from critics.
The new film will be the first time the two comic book characters share the big screen and is being directed by 300’s Zach Synder.
The studio said its big summer movie next year will be the so-far untitled Peter Pan adventure.
Next year is fast becoming a busy one for blockbusters with Star Wars Episode VII, Avengers: Age of Ultron and a new James Bond film all scheduled for release.
