Highlands Ranch Home Surrounded In Connection With Arapahoe High School Shooting

HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. – Local and federal officers are searching a Highlands Ranch home that may be tied to the Arapahoe High School shooting.Highlands-Ranch

7NEWS reporter Lance Hernandez reported seeing deputies and agents wearing ATF jackets gathered outside a home near the intersection of S. Sugarstone Cir. and S. Madras Ct. That neighborhood is about 5 miles from the high school where the shooting occurred Friday.

The officers were protecting the scene for several hours while awaiting a search warrant. Then, just before 10 p.m., Hernandez reportes seeing the bomb squad entering the home.

Neighbors say they believe a teenager lives in the surrounded home. Other crime scenes involved in the case are the school, the gunman’s car and another home to which he had access.

Arapahoe County Sheriff Grayson Robinson says the student gunman, Karl Pierson, was armed with a shotgun and two molotov cocktails. He was looking for a specific faculty member that he identified by name.

The radio call signaling a gunman had entered the school was sent at 12:33 p.m. Friday.

Witnesses say they heard at least two shots. One critically injured a 15-year-old student.

The shooter’s body was found five minutes after the initial radio communication.

Sources tell CALL7 Investigator John Ferrugia the student was a senior who was recently kicked off the speech and debate team. The sheriff said he believed Pierson’s motivation for the shooting was “revenge” on the faculty member who was the coach for that team.
